October 2010

1st Parkland Job Fair a success!!!

The 1st Parkland Job Fair was successfully held in Winnipeg on August 30th, 2010 at the Burton Cummings Centre. A variety of Parkland businesses brought available job openings in anticipation of attracting newcomer immigrant men and women who have already made Manitoba their home. The communities represented at the event were Swan River, Benito, Roblin, Dauphin, Russell, Inglis, Rossburn and Birtle. Immigration Community Services Representatives and Economic Development Officers were also present to showcase the quality of life in their individual areas and answer questions for those who were interested in relocating to the Parkland.

As the "baby boomer" generation within the Parkland Region is getting ready to retire, attraction efforts continue. Manitoba's Parkland offers an array of small cities, towns, and welcoming communities who are all working together to increase their population. In each area newcomers enjoy affordable living in serene settings, with low crime and an abundance of recreational opportunities for all ages. The Job Fair attracted a variety of newcomers eager to hear about the opportunities in rural areas. Many expressed interest in a better lifestyle for their families.

The Parkland has proved to be an attractive place to settle. Recent newcomers share comments about life in the Parkland.....from Onanole..."We escape the pressure and rush of the city-life and we have more time available for ourselves." From the Roblin area of the Parkland another comment... "We have much more time to be social and enjoy the physical space, clean air, sunny days, and the local people. It seems everyone knows each other and are very friendly".

In addition to enhanced quality of life and easy paced living, the Parkland location boasts all the city amenities and services including quality health care and educational opportunities along with access to a number of national and provincial parks and forest reserves. Plan to visit Riding Mountain National Park, Asessippi Provincial Park, Duck Mountain and Porcupine Provincial Park anytime of year to enjoy seasonal recreation activities.

With an abundance of diversity, affordable living and work in a variety of industries from health care to manufacturing and agriculture available, anyone who missed the job fair event is welcome to connect with area employers by checking the job opportunities available online at www.parklandimmigration.ca.
