ROBLIN'S FIRST "FOLKLORAMA"

The Town of Roblin and the Rural Municipality of Shell River are roud to announce their newest community event.

Roblin's first "Folklorama" will be taking place on Saturday, March 19th, 2011 from 2 to 9pm at the Roblin Community Centre.

This event is funded by Welcoming Communities Manitoba, a division of the Province of Manitoba's Multiculturalism Secretariat.

The objective of this event is to create awareness of the different cultures within our community;  to promote acceptance of other cultures; and to provide insight as to how things are different in our community compared to other parts of the world.

This event will feature more than 20 kiosks showcasing different cultures and countries present within our community, wine sampling from countries around the world, ethnic food sampling, dancers, cultural music, cowboy games, demonstrations of different art forms, horse wagon rides, a Chinese Auction and much more all day long.

Roblin is proud to present its own Scott Cornelius, who plays the fiddle beyond compare, the Mazur Family, who will be playing music from around the world, and many more local entertainers.

Roblin's local talent doesn't stop there.  Individuals and groups from Roblin will be square dancing, jigging and showing off their dance moves.  Highland dancers are also scheduled to be there.

Art forms and sport demonstrations from different cultures will be on hand as well.  "Ken Do" which means"Way of the Sword" will be demonstrated by instructors from the South Korean GNB Educational College in Roblin, and the Roblin Karate Club will be demonstrating different levels of "Kata".

People of the community of Roblin and area have pulled together and volunteered their time to ensure that this event will be a success.

Newcomers, foreign workers, immigrants and individuals of various cultures and heritage who are involved with this event are confident that this will benefit our community and raise awareness and acceptance of other cultures.
