Contact an Community Immigration Coordinator for assistance with any aspect of settling in your new community, ask for a settlement guide

•    Find temporary accommodations. Contact a local real estate agent or housing organization for more information. Can't find one? Go to your local Town or City Hall. They will be able to help you find somebody.

•    Get a map of the area. Did you know that you can get a free Highway map from Manitoba in most Tourism offices.   A good place to start!

•    Get a telephone book. Most communities have an MTS (Manitoba Telephone Company) office or dealer in the area. Here you can pick up your free copy.

•    Apply for Manitoba Health Card. Registration forms are available in the City or Town Hall. There is no cost and there will always be someone to help you. Still confused? Contact your regional Community Immigration Coordinator for help

•    Apply for a Social Insurance Number Card (SIN Card). This is very important and mandatory for anyone that is going to work. Your employer will ask for it the first day at work. You can apply in person at a local Services Canada office.

•    Open a bank account. There are many different banking corporations & credit union's in Canada. You find local branches everywhere. Walk into a bank and enquire first! Compare rates and options. If you tell them that you are new to Canada, they will explain the how-to's of banking in Canada.

•    Look for a job. Most communities have an Employment Manitoba office. Employers advertise in the local newspaper or put a sign in front of the windowtheir business. Always bring a resume with your contact information and educational & work history. The Parkland Job Opportunity Centre or the Regional Employment Resource Centre can help you put one together.
